Stomata
Stoma (Greek for mouth) is essentially a pore for plants that is used for gaseous exchange. The pore is boarded by a pair of guard cells that regulate the size of the opening. Stomata is the collection of these pores and guard cells. Carbon dioxide and oxygen enter and oxygen (from photosynthesis) exits through the same opening. Water vapor (transportation) also exits through these pores.
Most plants open and close throughout the day in response to changing conditions (light intensity, humidity, & carbon dioxide concentration). This could relate to a building skin as a sun shade but also could be a protective awning for outdoor spaces.
